TIRANA. The Italy-Albania Business Forum which took place in Tirana 19-20 February was focussed on economic and political relations between Albania and Italy and on the market opportunities for collaboration and investment.
There were workshops and business-to-business contacts with Albanian companies with a view to investigating possible areas of collaboration.
The Blue Route
The project called the ‘Blue Route’ is considered to be the largest construction project to connect the Mediterranean region – going from north Croatia to Greece, passing through Montenegro and Albania as well as linking other countries such as Bosnia & Herzegovina and Italy. The cost of the project is estimated at approximately 400 million Euros with seven countries collaborating to create one motorway that will connect the Western Balkan countries.
The plan is to construct a motorway from Trieste to Kalamata. The Albanian Prime Minister, Eddie Rama, announced the commencement of the project at the meeting of foreign ministers and ministers for public works that took place in Pristina, Kosova with Johannes Hann, the EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood Negotiation and Expansion Policies. The Adriatic-Ionian Road, which it has also been called, will connect Dalmatia with the Greek Riviera whilst serving all the countries along the route.
Part of the funding for the project will come from the European Union and some sections of the motorway have already been completed in Albania and in Greece, where the ‘Ionian Motorway’ is part of the network.
