Message of life from Director of Corfu Hospital ICU following 51-year-old’s organ donation
CORFU. The Director of the Intensive Care Unit at Corfu General Hospital sent a message of life and gratitude following the organ donation from the 51-year old.
“The first consent given for the donation of organs in Corfu three months ago has now been followed by that given by the family of the 51 year-old hospitalized in the ICU. The donation procedure was completed at 05:23 on 30th January.
First of all, on behalf of the ICU medical and nursing staff, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
I would also like to thank all those involved for the moral and ethical integrity which they showed once again with their sensitive handling of each stage of the process.
Finally, I would like to wish a full recovery to those who have benefitted from this ultimate act of human solidarity.
Man’s timeless concern to bequeath life is, in the end, the best weapon in the defeat of death. Let us collectively aim to create a moral code with organ donation as one of its basic principles.”
