Corfu and Igoumenitsa included in Silk Road

IGOUMENITSA. The municipalities of Corfu and Igoumenitsa have been included in the European network European Silk Road – MarcoPoloRoutes based in Venice.

The purpose of the network is to develop international cooperation in culture, cultural tourism, local development, cultural heritage management and communication.
In addition, the network aims to provide business support, especially for small and medium-sized businesses and local producers - with particular emphasis on new businesses and innovative start-ups.

In order to encourage initiatives which will have a positive effect on tourism and productivity in the participating towns, the network aims to promote the various organizations through cultural activities on an international level.

Inclusion in the network will create a ‘bridge’ with Venice and Italian culture in general.

The members of the European Silk Road are as follows:

Italy
Assonautica Italiana, the Italian association for human rights, AIC-Adriatic Forum and Ionian Chamber, Biennial Habitat “Mediterranean Human Heritage”, the Municipality of Gradara del Bruscolo and the culinary school Med in Ceglie Messapica.

Albania
Fondacioni Europa.

Croatia
Zaklada Europa and the Arset Labor Foundation.

Greece
Igoumenitsa, Corfu, Municipality of Monemvasia, Municipality of Pylou-Nestoros. The Municipality of Athens is at present in the process of also becoming a member.
