CORFU. Ordeal for the 64 passengers aboard the ferry boat ‘Alkinoos’ sailing from Igoumenitsa to Corfu on Saturday.
Igoumenitsa Port Authority were informed by the captain of the ‘Alkinoos’ that while the ramp was being raised before setting out for Corfu, the right cable broke. As a result, the ramp for passengers and vehicles could not be fully raised.
A local inspector boarded the ship and confirmed the damage. There was no report of injuries and the company transferred passengers to another ferry boat before taking them to Corfu.
The Port Authority forbade the ‘Alkinoos’ from sailing until the damage was repaired and properly certified.
