CORFU.A meeting took place this morning in the Regional building in Corfu to discuss ways of reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The meeting was part of the European project, ‘PASSAGE’, and was organized by InnoPolis - the Centre for Innovation and Culture - together with the Region of Ionian Islands, the Municipality of Paxos and the region of Lecce, Italy. Other organizations interested in the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions also participated.
The organizers told us that after the meeting, when decisions have been arrived at, proposals will be drawn up and sent to all interested parties.
The aim of the PASSAGE project is to continue the ongoing dialogue regarding the economy of low carbon dioxide emissions and the adaptation to climate change in the straits of Otranto and Corfu.
The main points at this morning’s meeting were:
· Energy communities – prerequisites for their foundation, occasioned by the upcoming vote on the relevant legislation and the exploitation of renewable sources of energy to enable energy autonomy, especially on the islands.
· Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as ship fuel and other marine innovations aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
An electric vehicle was on display during the meeting as an example of an inexpensive solution without road tax.
In the video you can see what Giorgos Lichnos, Deputy Mayor for Finance for Paxos, and Giorgos Kazantzidis, General Manager of Eco Sun - which presented the electric car - had to say to us.
