ATHENS. Total savings of 40 cents per litre on heating oil, 20 cents on diesel and 10 cents on unleaded petrol. The subsidy extension will cost €35 million.

The fuel subsidy will be extended through the first half of November, according to a joint announcement by the Ministries of National Economy and Finance and Environment and Energy on Friday 30 October.

The subsidies in force during the second half of October will remain unchanged from 1 to 15 November 2026. These include a government subsidy of 20 cents per litre for heating oil, 15 cents for diesel and 10 cents for 95-octane unleaded petrol.

The government subsidies are supplemented by discounts from oil refineries, amounting to 20 cents per litre for heating oil and 5 cents for diesel.

For example, the savings amount to €400 on an order of 1,000 litres of heating oil, €10 on a 50-litre fill-up of diesel and €5 on an equivalent fill-up of unleaded petrol, compared with prices without these subsidies and discounts.

The budgetary cost of the new 15-day extension is estimated by the ministries at €35 million.

Support measures totalling €1.44 billion

According to the government announcement, the total value of measures introduced to address rising energy costs and support household incomes amounts to €1.44 billion. Of this, €897 million relates to emergency measures and €541 million to permanent interventions.

The measures include fuel subsidies totalling €297 million, a 30% increase in the heating allowance for the 2026–2027 winter season, at a cost of €52 million, and financial support of €150 per child for families, which was paid in June.

For island regions, additional support of €60 was provided through the April–May Fuel Pass, compared with €50 for mainland Greece.

The government also includes in its account of support measures subsidies for fertilisers, compensation for ferry companies, an expansion of the rent refund scheme and an increase in the annual financial assistance paid to pensioners.
