Corfu not included in ΄Smart Cities΄
ATHENS. Contract for the project ‘Smart Low-Pollution Cities’ within the framework of the Interreg Greece–Albania 2021–2027 Programme.
(From the announcement of the Ministry of Economy) The funding agreement for the project “Smart Cities: Smart Solutions for Resilient Low-Pollution Cities,” with a total budget of €1,940,984, was signed by the Deputy Minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis.
The project, which is part of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Interreg IPA VI-A “Greece–Albania 2021–2027,” includes the procurement and installation of equipment aimed at improving citizens’ daily lives by promoting sustainable urban mobility, electromobility, and the use of digital tools. The goal is to reduce air pollution and environmental noise through pilot interventions in selected cities of the two countries.
Corfu not included
In Florina, a system of 35 shared electric bicycles will be installed, accompanied by charging stations and environmental monitoring sensors.
In Arta, the action focuses on connecting peripheral parking areas with the town centre. For this purpose, two electric mini-buses will be deployed, supported by charging points and digital information screens.
In Lefkada, the municipal cleaning fleet will be strengthened with the procurement of one electric cleaning vehicle and one electric street sweeper, for use within the urban area and the old town.
In Albania, the Regional Council of Korçë and the Municipality of Vlorë will each procure two electric buses, supported by the corresponding charging stations.
At the same time, digital tools for monitoring air quality are being developed, along with public awareness and information initiatives targeting citizens and school pupils, such as the establishment of a “Zero Emissions Day,” strengthening environmental awareness within local communities.
