(Ionian University) The Ionian University Department of Audio & Visual Arts is pleased to announce the launch of the 18th Festival of Audiovisual Arts, which will take place in Corfu from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 18.
The Festival is one of the most important institutions in the field of contemporary audiovisual arts, bringing together creators, researchers and students from Greece and abroad.

Over the past twenty years, the Festival of Audiovisual Arts has been organised by the Department of Audio & Visual Arts in collaboration with the ERHMEE Laboratory – Department of Music Studies of the Ionian University, showcasing contemporary trends in sound and visual creation. This year’s programme includes a rich array of artistic activities in the Visual, Sound, Performing and Interactive Arts, offering the audience a multidimensional experience.

This year’s programme features a series of exhibitions, screenings, performances, and events with guest artists, highlighting the dynamic nature of contemporary art in dialogue with digital and sonic media.

The Central Exhibition will host artist Pari Antoniou in the Thanos Christou Hall of the Corfu Art Gallery, from May 8 to May 18. The exhibition presents a body of work focusing on the transformation of memory and materiality, through mixed media techniques and digital composition.

On Sunday, May 11, at the Bank of Greece building, audiovisual and interactive works will be presented by the Digital Forms of Art programme of the Athens School of Fine Arts, spotlighting student and graduate research in sound, image, and interactivity.

The Festival’s visual arts programme is further enriched by the following exhibitions:

  • Graduating Students’ Exhibition: featuring works that mark the transition from academic study to professional artistic practice.

  • Postgraduate Programme Exhibition “Arts in the Digital Era”: presenting research-based and creative approaches to art and technology.

As part of the Festival, the 7th International DCAC Conference (Digital Cultures and Audiovisual Challenges) titled “Interdisciplinary Creativity in Arts and Technology” will also take place, featuring academic presentations and lectures by distinguished scientists and professionals, on May 9–10 at the Ionian Academy.

The AV School educational programme, titled “Crossroads”, offers specialised workshops and seminars for students and professionals, strengthening the connection between theory and practice in audiovisual arts, from May 12 to 16 at the Corfu Public Central Library.

The Festival is also enriched through collaborations with local artistic and cultural groups such as: the ICONA Festival, the Peloponnese Documentary Festival, the AVARTS Theatre group, the AVARTS Game Hub creative community aimed at fostering game design and development, the “LogOtechni” literary club, and other independent initiatives that highlight the multifaceted energy of the local scene.

These activities compose a polyphonic canvas of artistic forms and technological innovation, bringing to the forefront creativity, experimentation, and academic production.

The Festival’s reach continues to expand, offering an ideal meeting point for the artistic and academic community through cross-media events, educational initiatives, and scholarly conferences. With a dynamic programme that highlights contemporary audiovisual creation, the Festival of Audiovisual Arts remains a key institution for research, education, and innovation in the arts.
