CORFU. This year΄s Corfu Mountain Trail is taking place on 11 and 12 May.

The 12th Corfu Mountain Trail is taking place on May 11th and 12th, in collaboration with the Corfu Mountain Trail Association, the Ionian Islands Regional Authority, and Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality. A press conference was held at the Old Town Hall today, attended by athletes and organisers.

Central Corfu Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Sustainable Tourism Development & Public Relations, Spyros Halikiopoulos stated that the Corfu Mountain Trail is an institution firmly established in Corfiot society. He further added, "The race aligns with the core of our priorities, regarding the tourist development and promotion of Corfu," as it involves a race held in the countryside, thus promoting a variety of alternative forms of tourism "and tourist markets that are of particular interest to us."

Representatives of the Association mentioned that the number of participants registered exceeds 300, with more than half being foreign nationals. The trails are already prepared to welcome the runners, and the races include adult races as well as races for children. The race consists of four individual routes: A) CMT ULTRA 103 km, B) RAIN TRAIL 44 km, C) OLIVE TREE TRAIL 24 km, D) QUICK TRAIL 12 km.

The race has been honoured with the participation of top athletes in the field such as Ludovic Pommeret, Franco Colle, Maude Mathys, and others. It is a premier sporting trail event, now of international character, with participants from 30 different countries throughout its history, laying the groundwork for Corfu's inclusion in the global sports calendar.

This year, once again, Italian champion Franco Colle will participate in the race, winner of perhaps the toughest and most demanding race in Europe, the famous Tor des Geants (Tour of the Four Giants MontBlanc, Grand Paradiso, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa), covering a distance of 330 km. He was present at the press conference and expressed his joy at being in Corfu again this year, stating that he is "excited to participate in this beautiful race."

All races will finish in Liston, and this year the race will also have a charitable aspect, as participants and spectators will be able to contribute financially so that young Nikola can travel to Barcelona for treatment.
