RHODES. According to the Fire Service representative, Mr. Varthakoyianni, it is estimated that 40,000 stremma of forest land has been burnt.

Wildfires continue to rage uncontrollably on Rhodes for the fifth day. As reported by Rodiaki, the fire remains uncontrolled on several fronts and has reached the facilities of three hotels in the Kiotari area. The hotels have been evacuated of tourists, and efforts are being made by firefighters, volunteers, and staff to minimise the damage.

In the update provided by Deputy Fire Department Spokesperson, Deputy Fire Chief Ioannis Artopoios, at 20:05, he stated: "During its course, the fire has reached the south of the settlement of Laerma, and despite the efforts of strong ground and aerial forces, as well as the work of earthmoving machinery and bulldozers to create new firebreaks, the fire moved through canyons with a wind intensity of Force 7 towards Lardos.

For this reason, an evacuation order was issued by the 112 service for those residing in Asklipiio and Kiotari. In the specific area, the intensity of the phenomenon has de-escalated.

The evacuation of all hotel facilities was carried out without any issues to safe locations, and it is estimated that over 2,000 people have been rescued by sea.

Arrangements have been made for the accommodation of those who needed to be relocated from the affected areas. Additionally, a Blue Star ship is available to accommodate people."

As reported by ERT News, the fire has reached the village of Laerma, and a message from the 112 service was issued for the evacuation of the settlement of Gennadi, apart from Kiotari.

According to estimates provided by the fire department spokesperson, Mr. V. Varthakoyiannis, presented in a news bulletin on the Open TV channel, the fire in Rhodes has burnt 40,000 stremma, mainly forest areas, and the possibility of this increasing has not been ruled out.
