CORFU. The new analysers offer maximum reliability in all aspects of the Complete Blood Count (CBC) test.

After almost 20 years, Corfu General Hospital has been equipped with new Alinity h-series integrated haematology analysers for the performance of the Complete Blood Count (CBC) test.

This is the most common haematology test to which almost all patients undergo. In addition to increased speed of analysis, which is a very important feature for emergency cases (road accidents, bleeding, etc.), the new analysers offer maximum reliability in all aspects of the Complete Blood Count (CBC) test.

More specifically it delivers:

1) platelet count measurement: increased accuracy in thrombocytopenia, microcytosis, thalassaemia (trait) or samples of patients with red blood cells.

2) measurement of haemoglobin in each sample with 2 different methodologies

3) diagnosis and monitoring of patients with infection or inflammation, as well as patients with haematological diseases, such as myeloproliferative or myelodysplastic syndroms (e.g. leukemias).

4) analysis of Mean Cell Hemoglobin of the reticulocytes (MCHr) for the diagnosis of iron deficiency, as well as monitoring of iron and/or erythropoietin therapy in patients with chronic anaemia.

The cost will remain as it was with the older analysers.

The acquisition of these analysers during this difficult time of the pandemic will upgrade the quality of the health services provided by the Corfu General Hospital and is the result of a coordinated effort of the hospital’s administration, which aims to upgrade the equipment of our hospital, the staff of the haematology laboratory and the administrative and technical service of the Corfu General Hospital.

We would also like to inform you that the haematology laboratory of our hospital participated in the Panhellenic Sero-epidemiological Study of the University of Thessaly, responsible for which was the Professor of Hygiene and Epidemiology Christos Hadjichristodoulou. Mr. Tsiodras also participated with a recent publication (Diagnostics 2022, 12, 295 /SARS-Co-V -2 Sero-Surveillance in Greece Evolution over Time and Epidemiological Attributes during the Pre-Vaccination Pandemic Era).

The hospital’s management would like to congratulate the staff of the haematology laboratory for their effort and participation.
