Young Corfu boy wins group in ACO World Amateur Chess Championship

Simon Max Skembris won his group at the World Amateur Chess Championship (postponed from 2020) in Fodele, Crete 11 -20 June.
Simon Max Skembris is son of the Corfu Grand Master and Greek Champion Spyros Skembris and the German WGM Bettina Trabert.
Manos Nathanail from Corfu Chess Club made the announcement and congratulated Simon Max. "Simon Max, whom we can see in the photo with his cup, came up against older and more experienced players," he said, "but was able to come first with a big difference! I am sure that he will do well in the National Individual Children & Youth Championship in Patra, which takes place 30/8 - 4/9.
We must mention the important assistance he got from the principal of the wonderful Afra Primary School, where Simon Max is a pupil, Mr. Mamalos so that he could participate in the Championship."
