ATHENS. The Council of State has given the green light for the transportation of waste bales to Lefkimmi to continue.
The Council of State decided that another 2,000 tons of waste can be deposited at Lefkimmi residue landfill until 5 June 2019. At the beginning of the summer the Council of State had given temporary permission - until the appeal on 5 December - for up to 8,000 tons to be transported and deposited there.
Although the appeal to cancel the decision of the Decentralized Administration to temporarily allow bales to be deposited in Lefkimmi was discussed yesterday, the decision of the Council of State will require at least another three to four months. Thus an extension was given allowing another 2,000 tons to be transported until 5 June 2019. It is absolutely forbidden to go above this limit.
