Filming of Serbian documentary ΄Corfu: Sister Island Forever΄ nearing completion

Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos gave an interview today to Zvonko Simunec, co-producer of the film "King Peter I" (originally called "King Peter's Socks") for the documentary which is being produced at the same time as the film.
The documentary is called "Corfu: Sister Island Forever" and aims to show the long historical friendship of the two peoples as well as to promote the film in Serbia and the other Balkan countries. Filming in Corfu will be completed this week and the film, which is a Serbian, French and Greek co-production, is being made on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Allied victory in the 1st World War and the huge numbers of Serbian lives lost.
A large part of the film takes place in Corfu and shows the selfless help that the people of Corfu gave to the Serbian soldiers while they were stationed on the island between 1916 and 1918 as well as the strong ties which were generated between the two peoples when Corfu proved to be the 'island of salvation' for the Serbian Army.
The film premiere will take place on 11 November in Belgrade and there will follow screenings in Paris, London, Moscow, Athens and finally in Corfu.
Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos talked about the historical ties between the two peoples and the efforts that the current local authority is making to strengthen them. "Statistical proof of this effort," he said, "can be seen in the increase in the number of Serbian tourists choosing Corfu for their holidays." Regarding the film, the Mayor said it would play an important role in preserving the memory as it strengthens the relationship between Corfu and Serbia - showing the Serbians passing through inhospitable mountains before they arrived on the island and then the support of the Corfu people in that difficult period in Serbian history.
"That period," said the Mayor, "is also a part of our history - it is a living example worldwide of solidarity between peoples."
