Strong presence of firefighting planes - Civil Protection confident that fire will be brought under control before nightfall

CORFU. 2 Canadair planes along with the 3 PZL (One was sent from Aktaion) have been able to prevent the fire in NW Corfu from spreading.
According to Deputy Regional Governor Nikoletta Pandi (at 17:00) it cannot be said that the fire is under control but the Civil Protection Dept believes that they will have the conflagration under control before nightfall.
Firefighters are battling hard against the fire which has several sources. The north-westerly wind has a force of 3-4. The Canadair planes are refilling from the sea near Arillas and there are 16 firefighters with 8 fire trucks on the ground according to the Fire Service.
