We are writing to bring to your attention the immediate need for the repair of the road leading up to the Virgin Mary Monastery in Palaiokastritsa, as it has suffered severe damage and presents serious danger. Only cars and mini buses can use it but it is impossible for buses.
Letters from organizations and companies involved in excursions have also stressed the matter, which needs to be dealt with as soon as possible because as the summer approaches the heat will put people of climbing the road on foot and it will be impossible for elderly visitors.
We request your immediate response and action to ensure the road is repaired with the basic condition that it is certified suitable by a civil engineer who will assume responsibility.
We hope that you will be able to respond to our request as despite the great interest in the monastery, we are forced to cancel excursions because of the condition of the road.
We would like to point out that Palaiokastritsa along with Corfu Town and Achilleion Palace are some of the main places of interest for visitors to the island, which enjoins all the bodies and organizations involved to take action so that the island's tourism doesn't suffer from cancelled trips due to the impossibility for buses to use the road leading to the monastery.
