CORFU. The president of the Local Authority Workers Union (OTA) in Corfu, Stamatis Korfiatis, told Enimerosi that they will be participating in the national work stoppages on Monday 15th, called by the Panhellenic Federation of Local Authority Workers (POE-OTA).

The Civil Servants Union (ADEDY) will also be taking part and have called on all public sector employees to join in.

POE-OTA

POE-OTA has decided to call a work stoppage for all local authority employees on Monday 15th January from 11am until the end of working hours. We call on all employees to participate.

The Federation refers to the following in its announcement: “The ‘mammoth’ legislation with 70 requirements for the 3rd evaluation that the government wants parliament to ratify in order to satisfy the lenders until the next evaluation includes property auctions for debts to the state of 500 Euros and above plus limitations on the right to strike with the 50% +1 rule. The right to strike is something that workers have fought hard to achieve.

The legislation also includes the reintroduction of Heavy and Hazardous Occupations into the public sector, which will lead to the gradual abolition of benefits and a reduction in the number of workers receiving them.”

Civil Servants Union (ADEDY)

The Corfu branch of ADEDY supports the primary teachers’ strike on Monday 15th January (ADEDY have called for a 3-hour work stoppage), protesting against the ratification of the legislation in parliament, which includes limitations on the right to strike, an increase in property auctions for debts to the state, increased working hours for teachers, school mergers etc.

Following a unanimous decision, we call on public sector employees in Corfu to take part in an additional work stoppage on Monday 15th from 10:00 – 12:00 to lend force to the industrial action and express our opposition and resistance to the ratification of the legislation. This will allow members to also participate in the planned demonstration at the Corfu secondary school at 12:00.
