Exploratory drilling: full Regional Council decision published
CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Authority has published the full text of its decision on the Asopos-1 project. The positive opinion relates to the exploratory drilling, incorporates the 17 conditions set out in the relevant department’s recommendation, and provides for further political discussion if the exploration leads to development and exploitation. No monitoring body has yet been formally established, nor has a specific percentage of compensatory benefits been agreed for the Diapontia Islands.

CORFU. Recent reports have linked the 609-stremma site to new investors, but this information remains unconfirmed. The owner, however, is indeed considering a sale or joint development of the property, while it remains unclear whether Ikos’ earlier interest still stands.
At site where 112 resistance fighters were executed, the memory remains alive
CORFU. The two-day programme organised by the Lazaretto Association concluded on Sunday 25 October with a visit of remembrance and tribute. Relatives of those executed, representatives of local government and members of the public paid tribute to the victims of the executions carried out between 1946 and 1949.

Ministry pledges €150,000 for pumping stations in local communities

Students from Novi Sad in Corfu – A friendship rooted in history
CORFU. Fifty top-performing pupils from Novi Sad, Serbia, visited Corfu and were welcomed at the Old Town Hall as part of the twinning relationship between the two towns. The gathering, which featured songs in both Greek and Serbian, highlighted the historic ties between the two peoples, forged on the island during the First World War.
Digital map to assess how much tourism Ionian Islands can sustain
CORFU. Ionian University is beginning work on a system that will collect data on tourism and its impact on residents’ daily lives. The aim is to help local authorities identify where and when infrastructure comes under the greatest pressure, enabling them to plan interventions more effectively.

CORFU. All five are from the School of Environment, with research focused on environmental science and food science. The ranking is based on bibliometric indicators and the impact of their scientific publications.
Two new ambulances for Corfu – EKAB says staffing is adequate
CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Authority is handing over five ambulances: two for Corfu and one each for Lefkada, Kefalonia and Zakynthos. The service says it has sufficient staff, although as recently as September it had requested temporary reinforcements for ambulance crews in Corfu.
