Protest rally

CORFU. The protest rally will take place on Thursday 26/9 at 10:00 at the former prefecture.

The Corfu Association of IKA Pensioners along with the Pensioners Unions of State -NAT- and Corfu self-employed pensioners are organising a protest rally outside the former prefecture. It will take place on on Thursday 26/9 at 10:00. Their announcement states the following:

"The Goverment believes that with a 10 euro increase per month we can cover all of our needs and it proudly boasts about this without shame, without taking into account the exorbitant increases in medicine, food, energy and all consumer goods, which in many cases have increased by up to 200%.

There is no mention of holiday bonuses, retroactive payments, or the personal difference. In addition, the goverment has decided that the meager Christmas bonus will not be given to low-income pensioners as it was last year, because it considers those with a pension of less that 1,000 euros as rich.

The word "crumbs," which we usually use to describe government handouts, is… excessive in this case! It would fit perfectly, if we were ants, but we are not! We are human beings, the real producers of wealth, who have already paid for everything that all the goverments have taken away from us. Today, with all the cuts, we are not able to cover our basic needs and the major problems that their anti-worker policies have exacerbated to the maximum. We will not tolerate the blatant disregard of our situation and intelligence.

We demand and require from the Government real increases in pensions, which will address the rising costs of electricity, food, and medicine.

A minimun pension at 80% of the minimun wage.

The integration of the personal difference into the paid pension."
