Corfu will be cut off in the winter without ‘closed type’ ferry boats!

01 Dec 2017 / 08:27

Following the prohibition of the open ferry boat services due to the strong winds, the union of ferry boat crew members once again declared their opposition to the non-operation of ‘closed type’ ferry boats for 5 months in the winter. This is what they had to say:

CORFU. Yesterday (Thursday), before the first month of winter has even begun, the open ferry boats were once again prohibited from sailing between Igoumenitsa, Corfu, Lefkimmi and Paxos.

There is not a sufficient number of ‘closed type’ ferry boats operating and consequently island residents will either remain cut off or have to try to get a ticket for the single night service – assuming it is operating.

We would like to remind you that one of the demands in our recent strikes – which still haven’t been resolved – was regarding the 5-month winter period when the ‘closed type’ ferry boats are docked. We demand a quick resolution to this issue, which has been a problem for years for the seamen and the travelling public.
