CORFU. Issues discussed included airport flow management, policing, music operating hours, and road safety.

At the initiative of the Corfu Hotel Association, a working meeting was held last week in a particularly constructive atmosphere between the Association’s Board of Directors and Corfu Police Chief Spyros Skolarikis.

During the meeting, the following key issues were discussed:

Airport Flow Management: The issue of visitor inconvenience during peak days (Monday and Friday) at the non-Schengen passport control area was examined. Despite the full staffing of all six available counters by the Hellenic Police, both sides highlighted and agreed on the urgent need for the expansion of the area by the airport management company, Fraport.

Municipal Police: The Police Chief stressed the importance of the re-establishment of the institution in order to strengthen public order, policing, and the smooth operation of the town.

Regulation of Music Hours: The need to reach consensus regarding the operation of businesses in the Old Town was discussed, with the aim of safeguarding the quality of life of permanent residents while also preserving the vibrancy of the town as one of the country’s leading tourist destinations. An extension of permitted music hours during the summer season was proposed, alongside targeted inspections and the imposition of penalties exclusively on offenders. The Police Chief informed the Board of Directors of his intention to bring the issue to wider consultation with all relevant stakeholders and local government authorities.

Road Safety: It was agreed that an information leaflet containing road behaviour and safety guidelines would be prepared and distributed to visitors to the island through hotels.

The Corfu Hotel Association expresses its warm thanks to Mr Skolarikis for his detailed briefing and emphasises that it will remain a consistent supporter and partner in the demanding work of the Hellenic Police to ensure the safety and prosperity of our region.
