CORFU. In an effort to coordinate actions, push for solutions, and enhance the role of local communities, village presidents and representatives across Central Corfu launched a joint initiative in Sinarades.

The meeting of community presidents and representatives held on Sunday, May 24 at the former community office of the Sinarades Municipal Community marked the first step toward coordination and joint advocacy for the local communities of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands.

According to a statement by the newly established initiative, the aim of the meeting was to strengthen communication between communities, improve coordination, and jointly highlight the problems faced by local societies in their daily lives.

During the discussion, participants stressed the need for steady cooperation, exchange of experiences, and the formation of a common stance on issues concerning infrastructure, the functioning of local communities, and the provision of services to residents.

Decisions on continuation and expansion

Among the decisions taken were the continuation of the initiative through regular meetings, the development of a shared framework of principles and goals, the formation of a temporary coordinating communication group, and an open invitation for participation to all community presidents and representatives of the municipality.

Participants describe the effort as “self-governing, unifying, and advocacy-oriented,” stressing that it seeks to highlight and promote issues concerning local communities.

“Not confrontation, but cooperation”

The statement clarifies that the initiative is not aimed at conflict with the municipal authorities, but rather at fostering dialogue and cooperation to resolve problems for the benefit of residents.

At the same time, it extends an open invitation for participation, stressing — as stated — the need to move beyond personal or factional approaches and to promote common demands for the villages and local communities of Central Corfu.
