Pitonostimies – A family tradition of taste since 1999

There are some places in Corfu where the aroma of perfectly roasted meat and freshly baked pies becomes intertwined with the town’s history. “Pitonostimies” is one such landmark, having successfully balanced, since 1999, the authenticity of the past with the demands of today.
It all began with the vision of Christoforos and Avgerini Mitsialis, who transformed the charming alley of Agios Vassileios into a gastronomic destination. Today, the tradition continues in the hands of Periklis and Tatsis Mitsialis. Beyond the classic grilled dishes, here you can savour authentic Corfiot pastitsada and sofrito, cooked according to the traditional recipes. Handmade, fluffy pies embrace their own handmade gyro and select meats.
Whether you find yourself wandering the narrow streets of the Old Town or in the bustling Spilia area, the experience remains the same: a welcoming atmosphere, fresh ingredients, and a passion for great food.

I don’t think there’s a taverna with a reputation bigger than Tripa in Kynopiastes, or that has hosted so many notable personalities. It was founded by “Barba” Spyros Ifantis, and over the years the place has welcomed Aristotelis Onassis with Jackie, Anthony Quinn and Melina Mercouri, François Mitterrand, and many others. Seasonal salads, a variety of cold cuts and cheeses, sausages, stifado, sofrito, pastitsada, real pan-fried potatoes with grated cheese, roasted pork and lamb… and for dessert, yoghurt with honey or kumquats, as well as countless seasonal fruits. Open daily.
