Corfu MRI Center ranks among Europe’s best, with Green Certification and cutting-edge 3-Tesla technology
In doing so, the Corfu MRI Center advances environmental awareness in the field of medical imaging and consolidates its role as a national point of reference.
Recently, the Corfu MRI Center was awarded the “Green Imaging Department Certificate” by the European Society of Radiology (ESR), becoming the first medical imaging department in the country to receive this highly significant distinction. This certification represents the culmination of a comprehensive environmental sustainability plan already being implemented by the diagnostic centre, aimed at reducing its carbon footprint and protecting the environment from the impact of medical imaging practices. In this way, the Corfu MRI Center is paving the way for environmental responsibility in the field of medical imaging and is emerging as a national point of reference.
This development comes as no surprise, as the diagnostic centre has consistently remained at the forefront of technological and scientific innovation, prioritising both the quality of diagnostic procedures and a patient-centered approach to care. A notable example is the recent integration of innovative Artificial Intelligence algorithms for more accurate and detailed diagnosis of knee joint disorders—an advanced tool with multiple and significant applications, accessible to all patients undergoing examinations.
In this context, the Corfu MRI Center is moving forward with the imminent installation of a state-of-the-art 3-Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging system manufactured by Siemens Healthineers. The system, the Magnetom Vida, is the most powerful and advanced scanner in its category and will be equipped with cutting-edge technologies. The new Vida offers:
-
High-quality imaging across all anatomical regions
-
AI-driven image optimisation
-
Dramatic reduction in examination time compared to other MRI systems
-
A comfortable and patient-friendly examination environment, featuring a 70 cm open-bore design
-
The ability to perform a full-body MRI scan in just 25 minutes
However, progress does not stop here.
Responding to the demands of modern precision medicine, the Corfu MRI Center is also proceeding with the installation of a new Computed Tomography (CT) scanner by Siemens Healthineers, with the aim of further enhancing its imaging capabilities in this field.
Equipped with the new ZeeFree Artificial Intelligence system, the new CT scanner will set a new benchmark on the island for coronary imaging, offering rapid and highly accurate CT coronary angiography. The new CT system will provide:
-
Rapid image acquisition
-
Dramatically reduced radiation dose thanks to the CARE kV system
-
High-resolution imaging of small anatomical structures (e.g., coronary arteries)
-
Reduced contrast agent dosage
-
Multiplanar, 3D, color-coded imaging
Finally, remaining committed to its vision of continuous education and development, the Corfu MRI Center actively participates in ongoing professional training for its staff—through conferences, seminars, and similar initiatives—as well as in research activities at both national and international levels.
