CORFU. Beaches with a high number of swimmers will be included in the bathing water monitoring network.

(Press Release) Sampling inspections began on the morning of Monday, August 4, in marine areas of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands.

Ionian Islands Regional Health & Education Councillor, Yiannis Zikos, issued the following statement:

"With a strong sense of responsibility toward the public for safeguarding Public Health, and given the need to take measures to ensure the quality of bathing waters and to protect swimmers’ health, we inform you that the Directorate of Public Health & Social Welfare of the General Directorate of Public Health & Social Welfare of the Regional Unit of Corfu will carry out water sampling on Monday, 04/08/2025, from marine areas of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands. This is to determine whether the waters meet the quality standards set by current bathing water legislation.

The bathing water monitoring network will include beaches that attract a significant number of swimmers, have special interest (developmental, aesthetic, touristic, environmental, etc.), and those facing strong environmental pressures.

For any site or beach area where inspections confirm contamination or pollution exceeding permitted limits, a public announcement of our relevant decision will follow."
