1,527 driving offences in Ionian Islands last week

CORFU. Most of the violations were not wearing crash helmets (231), speeding (181) and driving under the influence (37).
Traffic Police carried out spot checks between 20 and 27 July in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada.
4,092 vehicles were checked and 1,527 offences were confirmed (660 in Corfu, 393 in Zakynthos, 262 in Lefkada and 212 in Cephalonia).
Most of the violations were not wearing crash helmets (231), speeding (181) and driving under the influence (37). The other violations were as follows:
- 28 for MOT violations
- 27 for not using seat belts
- 24 for driving without a licence
- 24 for not having insurance
- 20 for driving on the wrong side of the road
- 13 for using mobile phone while driving
- 6 for noise levels above that permitted
- 5 for running a red light
- 2 for driving dangerously
- 929 other offences
