CORFU. All outdoor work, as well as the burning of crop residues, is strictly prohibited from Tuesday, March 11, until Monday, March 18.

An emergency ban on burning has been announced by Civil Protection Service for eight days due to weather conditions which significantly increase the risk of wildfires.

Strong southern winds and unusually high temperatures for the season have led to the decision to prohibit the burning of crop residues for eight days, starting today. As a result, all outdoor work, as well as the burning of crop residues, is strictly prohibited from Tuesday, March 11, until Monday, March 18, by order of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

Citizens are urged to fully comply with the ban to prevent catastrophic incidents.

Appeal to farmers, livestock breeders and beekeepers

The Fire Department urges all citizens, particularly farmers, livestock breeders and beekeepers in Corinthia, to avoid any outdoor activities that could accidentally start a fire.

If smoke or fire is detected, individuals are advised to immediately notify the Fire Department by calling 199 or the European Emergency Number 112.

Strict inspections and fines for violators

To ensure compliance with the ban, extensive inspections and patrols will be carried out by:

  • The Fire Department
  • The Hellenic Police
  • Volunteer Fire Protection Teams

Call 112 or 199 immediately in case of fire!

Anyone violating the ban will face the applicable administrative fines as stipulated by law.
