New local taxes for 2025 approved
CORFU. The Decentralised Administration upheld the appeal from two hotels.
(Central Corfu Municipality) The Decentralised Administration of Peloponnese, Western Greece and the Ionian Islands has approved the Municipal Council's decision to adjust municipal fees for cleaning and lighting which will come into effect in 2025.
An exception applies to the segment of taxes concerning hotel bedrooms, as the Decentralised Administration upheld the appeal of two hotel units in Corfu. This decision deprives the Municipality of resources essential for balancing revenue and expenses.
Specifically, the Decentralised Administration’s decision rejected the differentiation in taxes for hotel bedrooms compared to ordinary residences, as proposed by the Municipal Council’s decision.
The Municipality had introduced a different rate for hotel rooms, arguing that these accommodate significantly more occupants in the same area compared to regular residences, thereby imposing a much greater burden on the waste collection and management service.
The Municipality plans to appeal the part of the Decentralized Administration's decision regarding hotels before the Special Committee.
