CORFU. The Ionian Islands Regional Police Department urges members of the public to be particularly cautious and, in any case, even in the event of an attempt, to immediately contact the police on "100".

Incidents of phone scams targeting citizens in Corfu and Lefkada have been reported to the respective Police Departments in recent days, and cases of phone scams or attempted offences of the same nature are under investigation.

Specifically, unknown individuals are contacting people by phone, pretending to be employees of accounting offices, and under the pretext of granting a benefit, they attempt to extract personal online banking information to gain access to the bank accounts of unsuspecting members of the public and subsequently withdraw money.

In order to avoid such incidents, the General Regional Police Directorate of the Ionian Islands recommends:

  • Be cautious with such phone calls
  • Save the phone number from which they were called
  • Do not return a call to a number provided via voicemail
  • Be suspicious and avoid discussing sensitive information with anyone who calls asking for such details
  • Do not reveal online banking passwords, card details, or other sensitive information via email or phone
  • Never, under any circumstances, give out the PIN of credit or debit cards or the password to bank account through e-banking

Additionally, the Regional Police Department urges members of the public to be particularly cautious and, in any case, even in the event of an attempt, to immediately contact the Police at the three-digit phone number 100.
