CORFU. In today΄s Regional Authority meeting alternative water supply initiatives will be discussed, while Stεφανοσ Gikas and representatives from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs have been called to meeting on Friday.
The issue of water supply will be focusssed on today and tomorrow. On Thursday morning, the President of the Regional Authority is calling the three mayors to a meeting, along with executive members from Athens, in order to find alternative solutions to the water supply issue. Following the meeting, President Yiannis Trepeklis has called the media for statements. While the future of the water issue in Corfu, which is under discussion, is a known, the water issue concerning the other islands is back on the table and will be discussed at the Regional Authority of Ionian Islands head office.
The Corfu MP Stefanos Gikas, who is Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, is calling calls the mayors to announce his initiatives about the water issue. Mr. Gkikas is accompanied by Manolis Koutoulakis, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs funded Chania in order to face the burning issue of the shortage of water, while, included in the agenda of those two meetings is the transfer of a reverse osmosis unit, which could be a solution to the water issue.
