CORFU. "Due to appreciation of the local community and South Corfu Municipality, we promise that we will do whatever is possible to solve the problems created by the officials of the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO)."

The investor expressed surprise at the decision of the Ministry of Tourism to reject the funding for the sports projects, which were included in the project as compensatory works for the community of South Corfu:

The announcement states:

"We were surprised to read in the news about the cancellation of the funding for the sports facilities in the project, amounting €8,000,000.

We would like to inform you that the company L.MARINE S.A. applied for the grant, adding €2,000,000 from its own funds, for the local community of the Municipality of South Corfu, specifically for the entity with its 2,500 members in South Corfu, who support the project of the marina and have endorsed it in the published public consultation.

At a social event in the area of Kalyvioti, attended by members of the entity and with the participation of gymnasts from South Corfu schools, we decided to submit the request for funding for the creation of sports facilities with a swimming pool and a sailing unit, for the local community and for the Municipality of South Corfu, as a compensatory project, according to the decisions of the Municipal Council, the previous Municipal authority, and with the support also from the new Municipal authority.

On April 18, 2024, the competent department of the Ministry of Tourism sent us the completion of the review of the application via gov.gr, without any comment on the cancellation of the application (the document is available to interested parties). By a political decision of the Ministry of Tourism, the grant was cancelled (as recently published), evidently due to the support of the Municipality by PASOK and SYRIZA.

The project has a budget of €340,000,000, and as everyone can understand, the €8,000,000 grant has no financial interest for the main project. Neither do the sports facilities fit in with the marina project. However, it is very important for the local community and especially for the pupils and youth in general, in an area with very low economic levels. According to the Ministry of Finance, it is one of the poorest areas in Greece.

Due to appreciation of the local community and South Corfu Municipality, we promise that we will do whatever is possible to solve the problems created by the officials of the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO).

We inform you that the responsibilities of the Ministry of Tourism, concerning marinas, according to Presidential Decree 82/2023 decided and signed by the Prime Minister, expire on December 30, 2024, and are transferred to the Ministry of Merchant Marine. We hope that the problems will be resolved then.

We wish you a happy Easter.

The Board of Directors of L.Marine"
