Olympic Flame in Corfu on Wednesday 24 April

CORFU. The torchbearers will be Spyros Yianniotis, Maria Georgatou Ioanna Bouziou, Arsenis Tsiminos, Haralambos Theodosis and Anastasia Mesimeri.

Corfu is one of the places in Greece through which the Olympic Flame will pass before being delivered to France, for the "Paris 2024" Olympic Games.

The torch relay in Corfu will take place on Wednesday, April 24th.

According to the schedule, the Olympic Flame will arrive in Corfu on Wednesday, April 24th, at 2:45 p.m. It will follow the route: Lohagou Spyrou Vlaikou (New Fortress), Stamatiou Desylla, Gerasimou Aspioti (Orfeas cinema), Akadimias, Agoniston Politechniou (Aktaion), and will end up at the Lower Square at 3:00 p.m.

The ceremony that will follow includes, among other things:

  • Playing of the Olympic Hymn and the National Anthems of France and Greece, performed by a mixed musical ensemble of the four Philharmonic Bands, namely: 'Old', 'Mantzaros', 'Capodistrias' and 'Spyros Samaras' Ano Korakiana.

 

  • Raising of the flag.
  • Greetings from the Mayor of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands, Stefanos Poulimenos, representative of the French Embassy, and a representative of the Hellenic Olympic Committee.
  • Exchange of gifts.
  • Cultural programme.

The torchbearers who will carry the Flame are:

  • Spyros Yianniotis, Olympic champion in open water swimming.
  • Maria Georgatou, Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics.
  • Ioanna Bouziou, Olympic champion in softball.
  • Arsenis Tsiminos, Holder of the World Junior Record in the 2,000m steeplechase.
  • Haralambos Theodosis, Champion in ice swimming.
  • Anastasia Mesimeri, Athlete with disabilities distinguished in swimming competitions.

The next day, at 8:00 a.m., the Olympic Flame will follow the route: Anaktora, Arseniou Street, and then to the New Port for departure.
