Regional Councillor meets with Social Workers΄ Union
CORFU. The necessity of staffing Social Services in all sectors of the Welfare and Health State and advocating for permanent recruitment of social workers was emphasised, so that prevention, intervention, and effective provision of social care services to vulnerable social groups can be possible.
The President of the Ionian Islands Regional Social Workers' Union, Angeliki Romaiou, and the Treasurer Sophia Barba, held an informational-collaborative meeting with the Regional Councillor Yiannis Zikos, responsible for Health and Education issues in the Ionian Islands Region, at the offices of the Regional Corfu offices.
The board members updated him about areas concerning the significant role of Social Workers and Social Work in advocating the principles of Social Solidarity, Equality, and Social Justice.
The necessity of staffing Social Services in all sectors of the Welfare and Health State and advocating for permanent recruitment of social workers was emphasised, so that prevention, intervention, and effective provision of social care services to vulnerable social groups can be possible.
In the near future, collaboration is planned between the Ionian Islands Regional Authority and the Ionian Islands Regional Social Workers' Union in order to raise awareness and sensitise the local community to issues of social interest, particularly holistic support for children, adolescents, families, and the school community.
