Bill to legalise same-sex marriage passes in Greek Parliament
ATHENS. 176 votes for, 76 against, 2 abstentions and 46 not present.
The bill to legalise same-sex marriage was passed in the Greek parliament last night with 176 votes for, from several parties, 76 against 2 abstentions and 46 not present. Greece, thus, became the 16th country in the EU and 37th in the world to legally recognise same-sex marriages.
Greece also became the first Orthodox country to legalise same-sex marriages and the news was reported in the international media - BBC, New York Times, Guardian Associated Press and others.
Of the Corfu MPs, Alekos Avlonitis from SYRIZA and Dimitris Biangis from PASOK voted in favour and Stefanos Gikas from ND voted against.
