Corfu Car Club, as part of its promotion of road safety and motor sports, invites you to the presentation of the proposal for the creation of a multi-purpose motor sport venue in Corfu. The event will take place on Saturday, December 16th, at 18:00 in the Rox hall of Cook's Club in Gouvia.
The club's goal is to highlight the benefits of having such a sports facility on an educational and sport level, as well as its contribution to the tourist promotion of Corfu.
Based on our proposal, the construction would include a modern kart track, along with a corresponding dirt track and ample parking space, which will also be used for safe driving seminars. Additionally, there will be an international-standard traffic education park for children.
The proposal is not only addressed to motor sports enthusiasts but also to members of the public who are particularly sensitive regarding road safety issues.
The event is sponsored by Cook's Club and is open to the public.
The proposal for the creation of a multi-purpose motor sport venue
In their proposal, they state the following:
As you may know, motorsport is the second most popular sport after football. Worldwide, along with races on tracks or rallies, events related to cars or motorcycles attract millions of spectators.
Founded in 2019, the Corfu Car Club has set goals for promoting road safety and organising events with a central theme of the car, also aiming at the promotion of our island as a twelve-month tourist destination.
As part of this approach, we are presenting the following proposal to be utilised by any entity with the capability.
Our proposal is the creation of a multi-purpose motor sport venue on a plot of land in any of the three municipalities. According to the law, it must be located 3 km away from residential areas, cover an area ranging from 50 to 150 stremma, and include the following:
-
Kart track (asphalt) at least 1 km in length and 8 metres in width (with the future possibility of expansion) to accommodate both karts and cars.
-
4x4 and Supermotard track, also 1 km, connected to the kart track for space-saving purposes.
-
Asphalt parking lot of 4 stremma, which can also be used for additional static events.
-
Mini track of 100 metres with traffic signs according to traffic education park standards for children under 6 years old.
-
Café with indoor and outdoor seating, with a capacity of at least 200 seats and the possibility of using the terrace, etc.
-
Kart and vehicle parking building within the track (pits), approximately 100x7 metres.
-
Medical office, changing rooms.
The benefits of our proposal:
-
Permanent revenue for the municipality (or private entity) from a) kart usage, b) rental of the space for club or independent events, c) attraction of tourists, as motorsports are widespread internationally, d) revenue from the operation of the café, e) income from advertisements (banners, etc.).
-
Use of the space for driving lessons and, primarily, for conducting road safety seminars.
-
Training space for club members.
-
A secure trial ground for younger and "enthusiastic" drivers who are currently conducting trials on the road, endangering themselves and other drivers.
(With regard to this, our Club promotes and encourages its members and others to participate in events held on tracks, such as the one in Serres. However, due to the distance, the cost factor is inhibiting.)
Benefits to the area:
-
As is evident, such a space will serve as a permanent attraction for the residents of Corfu.
-
The existence of such a facility will serve as a venue for events and official competitions of the national championship. Given the widespread recognition of our island, it is certain that many visitors, prompted by an event, will combine it with short or extended holidays.
-
Moreover, due to its proximity to Italy, international events can also be held. (In Italy alone, there are over 500 car clubs.)
-
The operation of such a space will provide a permanent and entirely cost-effective tourist promotion of the region, as well as Corfu in general.
-
(If this space is created in the Municipality of South Corfu, for example, in the former landfill area, the inexpensive connection via Lefkimmi will greatly facilitate use. A corresponding landfill area exists in the Municipality of North Corfu.)
Based on the aforementioned, we believe that it is an investment that, despite the seemingly high cost (600k-800k Euros according to our research), its benefits will be manifold and permanent.
P.S. The Corfu Car Club does not seek the management of the space. Our proposal aims at its creation by the Municipality or a private entity for the common good.
