Public reaction to the closed gate at the Ipapantis chapel

CORFU. The local priest stated that it is closed in winter for security reasons.

Several reactions have been posted on social media regarding the inability to access the exterior area of the Ipapantis Chapel in Kommeno, as the gate is currently locked. The picturesque 18th-century chapel serves as a focal point for visitors during both winter and summer, attracting locals and tourists alike. Its unique location on a small islet connected to the peninsula by a narrow dirt road has made it well-loved.

However, during the winter season, access to the church courtyard is not possible, and those wishing to enter will have to climb from the side sections of the gate. Although some reactions have been posted on social media, sources from the Church stressed to Enimerosi that they have not received any formal complaints.

Father Thomas, the priest of the parish of Agii Pantes in Gouvia, to which the Ipapantis Chapel belongs, told Enimerosi that the gate is closed during winter for the security of the church. "From the Easter period until early November, the gate is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. guarded by a security guard," he said. "During winter, there is no possibility of having a guard, and that's why the gate is closed for security reasons."
