High-speed internet in homes and businesses with ΄Smart Readiness΄ programme
CORFU. E-justice, electronic health records and digitisation of the Land Registry are amongst the priorities of the Ministry of Digital Governance.
The Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, during his visit to the island, mentioned the possibility to enhance homes, businesses and hotels in Corfu with ultra-high-speed internet through the fiber optic cabling infrastructure programme 'Smart Readiness Vouchers'.
As he stressed, the platform smartreadiness.gov.gr is open, in order for those interested to submit their application for the buildings eligible under the 'Smart Readiness' Action.
The programme, which has a total budget of €100 million and is funded by the Recovery Fund, is subsidising the installation of fibre optic cabling and smart meters in 120,000 properties in the country.
The aim of the programme is to upgrade the "smart readiness" of the country's existing building stock through the creation of modern digital infrastructure. This will enhance the penetration of high-speed broadband services in buildings and their interconnection with "smart" meters of utility networks (electricity, gas) without the need for significant additional work from the utility network operators.
"The programme enables us to fix the structured cabling in our buildings so that we now have access to bps speeds. If we and our businesses really want to be competitive, this is the first step," stated the Minister for Digital Governance.
Priorities in digitisation
At the same time, he pointed out that the Ministry's priorities include the digitisation of the justice system (digitisation of minutes, remote examination of witnesses or defendants, electronic dockets, etc.), the health system with electronic health records (interconnection of public hospitals, health centres and private diagnostic centres, so that all our medical examinations are on our mobile phones in the My Health app, and with the citizens' permission, doctors can access them), and the Land Registry.
"All these are just a part of the digitisation that the Ministry is currently running in order to move to a brighter side of the country, the one you want and we want," he noted.
