Educational programmes for school year 2023-2024 by Corfu Public Library

CORFU. All of this year΄s educational programmes have local history in common.

The Corfu Central Public History Library, in the context of planning actions addressed to the school communities, is informing the primary and secondary school teachers about the following educational programmes which, this year, have local history as a common element:

1. "The Knights of Freedom": Nursery pupils, 1st & 2nd grade primary school pupils (60 minutes).

An experiential reading programme, based on the book by the author Konstantina Armeniakou "The Knights of Freedom".

Thursday 09:00-10:00 and 10:15-11:15.

2. "The Road to Ithaca": 3rd & 4th grade primary school pupils (60 minutes).

An experiential programme to get to know the adventures of Odysseus and Greek mythology. Pupils will learn about Odysseus' exciting journey through games in the most entertaining way.

Thursday 09:00-10:00 and 10:15-11:15.

3. "From Door to Door": 5th & 6th grade primary school pupils (60 minutes).

Pupils learn in a playful way the history of the four gates that allowed Corfu Town's communication with the sea and the suburbs. The programme is accompanied by audiovisual material.

Thursday 09:00-10:00 and 10:15-11:15.

4. "Corfu Stories": Junior high school & high school pupils (90 minutes)

Experiential programme - Tribute to the Corfiot writer Konstantinos Theotokis on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death. Through Theotokis' four last works, pupils get to know the atmosphere of another era, and participate in the completion of a mission through the search for selected literary books. The programme is accompanied by audiovisual material.

Tuesday 09:00-11:00.

5. "Introduction to New Technologies": Junior high school pupils (90 minutes).

"Interactive workshop on artificial intelligence, its challenges and modern applications": an introduction to machine learning, computational neural networks and language models through gamification and discussion. The workshop is taking place in the framework of the Corfu Tech Lab (American Space) and is addressed to junior high school pupils.

Tuesday 11:15-13:00.

The aim of the programmes is to familiarise pupils with the library, to enrich their knowledge in an experiential and playful way, to cultivate their love for books and to motivate them to further search selected topics.

The programmes begin on Tuesday 11 October.
