Reopening of Agia Ekaterini Church
CORFU. The historical church and the adjacent building complex have been completely reconstructed and have become fully functional.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the building complex of the Agia Ekaterini on Capodistriou Street on the evening of Thursday, September 14th. The ribbon was cut by Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, along with the Archbishop of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontia Islands, Nektarios.
The historical church and the adjacent building complex have been completely reconstructed and have become fully functional.
The chosen date for the inauguration is symbolic, as in the early hours of September 14, 1943, the Nazis bombed Corfu, engulfing the city in flames and destroying many monuments of priceless architectural and historical value.
