This week΄s cultural events (28/8-3/9)
This last week of August starts with two very interesting exhibitions in Corfu.
The exhibition of historical documents '1923: The Greek-Italian Crisis and the Corfu Incident' organised by the Corfu Inspectorate of Antiquities is opening today, Monday 28 August, at the Old Fortress Latin Chapel. It is an exhibition which through archival documents, such as photographs, newspapers, diplomatic documents and engravings, tells the visitor about the island's occupation by the Italians in 1923 and further explores the diplomatic events of the time. The opening ceremony will take place at 20:00 and will be accompanied by the 'Old' Philharmonic Band, conducted by Spyros Kakarougas.
The children's group painting exhibition by Spyridoula Zachou is also opening today at the Corfu Art Gallery. Works of primary school pupils, full of imagination, will be presented in Corfu Art Gallery's Periodic Exhibition Hall. The opening is at 20:00 and the exhibition will continue until 1 September.
As part of the activities of the European Institute for Sciences and their Applications (EISA) CORFU2023 scientific programme, the first cultural event will be held by the San Giacomo Choir on Tuesday 29 August at 20:00 and will take place in the courtyard of the Palaiopolis Museum.
The life of Panayiotis Potagos, one of the most important Greek travellers, will be presented on Thursday 31 August through a theatrical performance in the Nymphes Square. The performance is a collaboration between the Corfu Municipal Theatre and the Corfu Association of Peloponnesians 'O Morias' and is under the auspices of the North Corfu Municipality. The play is based on the research work of Nikolaos Mamalos, which was directed and edited by Spyros Sourvinos. Admission is free and it starts at 20:15.
September will begin with the concert "The Young of the Opera", which will take place on Friday 1 September as part of the Corfu International Festival. Five young artists will present arias and ensembles of the classical lyrical repertoire in the People's Garden at 21:00.
