14 Jul 2023 / 15:06

CORFU. All the necessary repair and maintenance work has been completed to ensure the safety of all the games and activities.

The children's playground in Bosketo, which closed around the end of May, is preparing to reopen at the beginning of the week. The necessary repairs and maintenance of the play equipment has been carried out to ensure the safety of the young visitors.

The youngsters will now be able to enjoy carefree fun in the beloved playground that has had more and more children using it.

Deputy Mayor for Everyday Life, Haris Yiotis, told Enimerosi that the necessary maintenance and repair work has been carried out on all the equipment. Some recent repairs involve damage to parts of the flooring, as seen during a recent inspection by the Department. Another inspection will take place before the playground is made available for use again, in order to check the final details.

According to Mr. Yiotis, work was done on all the equipment, especially on the complex structure located in the middle of the playground.

"Decayed wood and wire ropes, as well as any other necessary components, were replaced. Repair and maintenance work has been carried out on all the games using certified materials. There was a serious problem in Bosketo, which is why the playground was closed for safety reasons," said.

"Complaints"

Previously, before the closure of the area, parents visiting the playground with their children were complaining about the poor condition of several activities that posed risks to the safety of the children. Eventually, the complaints reached the Deputy Mayor for Everyday Life, who is responsible for the maintenance of licensed playgrounds in the municipality of Central Corfu. After an inspection of the area, it was deemed necessary to temporarily close the playground in Bosketo in order to repair and maintain the equipment.

Supervision

According to Mr. Yiotis, the intention of the municipal authorities is to have continuous supervision of the area, which it currently lacks. While the space is monitored in the morning when employees from the Green and Cleaning Services are present in Bosketo, it remains unguarded from early afternoon until its closure.
