Old Town Permanent Residents Association΄s letter of protest regarding cockroaches issue
CORFU. Danger to public health - Copies of the letter were sent to the Prosecutor΄s Office and the Ministry of Interior.
The Corfu Old Town Permanent Residents Association sent a letter of protest to the Central Corfu Municipal Department of Protection and Promotion of Public Health and DIADEYADK regarding the many cockroaches in the Old Town.
The disinfection and disinsectisation is done randomly due to lack of resources, but there is a risk to public health.
The letter
We hereby inform you that our Association has been receiving dozens of complaints lately from our members about continuous appearances of huge black cockroaches in many neighbourhoods of the Old Town (Lemonia Square, Ag. Pateron, Delvinioti, Ag. Vasileiou, Themistokleous Kotardou, Velissariou, Ag. Sofias, Paleologou, Solomou, Alipiou, Prosalendou, Prifti, Guilford) with all that this implies for the health of the residents.
As you are well aware, the higher the temperature rises, the more frequent and unmanageable the unwanted visits of cockroaches to the residents' apartments and houses become.
According to our information, the Municipality and DEYAK have knowingly not disinfected the drainage system and sewers to date as they should or, when they do, the disinfections are carried out randomly (i.e. in some streets only, in some rainwater drains only and not all of them) with the unbelievable excuse of "lack of financial resources", while for other unnecessary expenses there are no financial issues.
Residents are asking the Municipal Authority and DIADEYADK to solve the cockroaches problem immediately as it is dangerous to our health and to finally show the required care to the town's serious issues.
