St.George΄s Church roof catches fire after being struck by lightning

Update 18:00: The fire has been brought under partial control with parts of the roof having suffered damage. All the artifacts and the Konstantinos Theotokis exhibition have been removed. A large number of firefighters and Municipal Civil Protection Service personnel are continuing the operation.

Update 16:55: Artworks and other property have been removed from the church. According to Fire Service, the fire is not under control yet.

During the sudden thunderstorm lightning struck the roof of St. George's Church in the Old Fortress, causing it to catch fire.

Four Fire Service vehicles immediately rushed to the scene and efforts are underway to extinguish the fire.
