CORFU. Much of the equipment is in poor condition. Maintenance and repair work begins in the next few days.

The children's playground in Bosketo has been closed for a few days now for safety reasons. The site will remain temporarily closed until maintenance and repair work can be carried out on the equipment so that it is safe to use again. Parents visiting the site with their children have been complaining about the poor condition of several of the equipment as it is dangerous for the children.

The most serious issue is the large structure in the middle of the area, where boards from the bridge are missing. Tape and plastic netting have already been placed.

Photos of the damage were posted frequently on social media, while parents did not hide their concern about the possibility of an accident. The complaints reached the Everyday Life Department, which is responsible for the maintenance of the Central Corfu Municipality's licensed playgrounds. Following an inspection at the site, it was deemed necessary to temporarily close the playground in Bosketo, in order to repair and maintain the equipment.

According to the responsible Deputy Mayor Haris Yiotis, efforts will be made so that the site can open again soon, given that it is visited by many people.

"It has been found that much of the equipment is dangerous and, therefore, in the coming days repair and maintenance work will begin with certified materials, so that the area can start operating safely. The biggest problem is the larger, complex structure," Mr. Yiotis told Enimerosi.

He also said that acts of sabotage have been found at the site and thus the placement of a guard in the afternoon is being considered. Even though the site is being supervised in the morning, as employees of the Green and Cleaning Services are in Bosketo, noone is there from early in the afternoon until its closure.

Four more playgrounds

According to Mr. Yiotis, repair work will be carried out in four more children's playgrounds (in Mantouki, Kontokali, Benitses and Ipsos) where problems were also found, but not so serious.
