CORFU. On Wednesday at 11:30 outside the former Prefecture.

The closure of EAKK brings even more problems in the current situation since there are no other places for training. Thus, the Central Corfu Municipality's Parents' Union will be taking part in the protest organised on Wednesday 12 at 11:30 outside the former Prefecture.

Statement from the Union:

"The problems of sports infrastructure in the Central Corfu Municipality are known for years. Governments have changed, succeeded each other, but the problems of abandonment, especially the swimming pool and the National Sports Centre (EAKK), have been growing. The result was the closure of part of EAKK while the swimming pool is ready to collapse and with many problems.

But the sports clubs have provided so much over the years to our children, filling the unacceptable gap in the organised school sports programme.

So instead of the state doing sports projects with generous state funding, our children experience the abandonment of sports facilities at the risk of their physical integrity. In addition, the Municipality has chosen to overburden the sports clubs with the cost it has imposed on the school yards and Nafsithoio.

The closure of EAKK brings even more problems in the current situation since there are no other places for training.

For all these reasons we are expressing our deep concern regarding the ongoing devaluation and degradation of yet another infrastructure of our island. The process is known. First there is devaluation and then commercialisation, privatisation and a burden on family planning for sports for our children. We must not let this happen with EAKK.

As parents, we support and stand with our children and their coaches.

MODERN SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE FOR MASS SPORTS!

WE PARTICIPATE AND SUPPORT THE PROTEST THAT WILL TAKE PLACE ON WEDNESDAY AT 11:30 OUTSIDE THE FORMER PREFECTURE".
