Corfu Town hotels and Airbnb properties almost fully booked for Easter
CORFU. Hotels in and around Corfu Town are 70-80% full, with bookings continuing.
The hotels in Corfu Town are almost fully booked for the Easter period. In many cases, there are no available rooms for those days, while there is a healthy increase and potential in organised groups coming by road, mainly from the Balkan countries.
Interest in the famous and renowned Corfu Easter, with unique customs, processions, and various events featuring Philharmonic Bands and Choirs that create a unique experience for visitors, began early.
It is indicative that if one visits the online platforms of hotels in the town now to make a reservation, they will mainly see the indication "full."
Hotels will also be open in close proximity to the town, up to Ipsos and Benitses, with occupancy rates being very good, reaching 70% - 80% so far.
Rental accommodation properties within 10-12 km of the town are also opening, according to the President of the Federation of Corfu Tourist Accommodation Owners, Pericles Katsaros.
Potential
According to Spyros Halikiopoulos, the President of the Association of Corfu Travel Agents, there is a healthy increase and potential for Easter, and organised group tourism by road is increasing.
"The groups have been filled early. Reservations started in autumn and demand in the last two months has been very high and they are requesting additional coaches. Interest is mainly coming from Romania and Bulgaria. Occupancy rates in hotels are very good," he said.
Prices going up
However, accommodation will cost more this year than last year, following the readjustment made by hoteliers, as a result of the general increase in all types of costs, including energy costs. As Mr. Voulgaris noted, prices have increased by 10% - 15%. The closer to the centre, the more expensive.
Depending on the hotel category and services offered, room rates start from €100 and reach up to €950 per night. More affordable options are available near the town, but even there, availability is limited.
The interest in Airbnb properties within the old town remains high, with many visitors preparing to pack their bags for short-term rental properties.
"Occupancy rates in the old town are at 95% - up by 20% compared to last year," Enimerosi was told by Kostas Xylas, who manages a short-term rental accommodation company responsible for 80 properties in Corfu, 70 of which are located in the town centre.
Increased ferry services
In anticipation of Easter, the two ferry companies in Corfu have already modified their schedules to better serve passengers. The programme changes from Holy Monday to Wednesday, April 19, with additional routes added.
