CORFU. All technical, institutional and economic issues concerning universities will be discussed.

The opening of the 102nd Deans Summit was declared this morning by the Ionian University Dean Andreas Floros, welcoming to Corfu all the heads of Greek universities.

Present at the opening meeting were the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, the Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou, as well as the Lawyers' Association President Yiannis Kontos, who emphasised the excellent cooperation they have with the Ionian University.

The Deans will discuss today and tomorrow all the current technical, institutional and economic issues concerning universities. These include underfunding, lack of staff and, in particular, administrative staff, while the host of the Summit is expected to give priority to the issue of the downgrading of performing arts degrees.

The interest is focused on tomorrow, when the Education Minister Niki Kerameos, the Deputy Minister responsible for education issues Aggelos Syrigos and the General Secretary for Higher Education Odysseas-Ioannis Zoras are expected to attend the closing.

The Summit will last four days and will end with a text of conclusions, on which the Deans will seek solutions from the Ministry of Education.
