CORFU. As part of the collaboration between the Corfu Prison Second Chance School and the Ionian University Museology Research Laboratory.

The Corfu Prison Second Chance School students visited virtually the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, Belgium, on Friday 24 February, with the museologist Dr. Argyro Platsa as guide, as part of the collaboration between the Corfu Prison Second Chance School and the Museology Research Laboratory of the Ionian University’s Archives, Library Science and Museology Department.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is a museum for contemporary art, film and visual culture in its widest sense. It is an open place of encounter for art, artists and the public, which bridges the relationship between artistic and wider social issues, between the international and the regional, artists and the public, tradition and innovation, reflection and presentation.

The students of the Corfu Prison Second Chance School let their imagination run wild in order to interpret some of the museum's works.

The tour continued with a look behind the scenes of the museum, where the students saw how the exhibitions are organised and where the works of art are being stored when they are not in the exhibition areas. This was followed by a discussion and the students asked questions about the museum, Antwerp and life in Belgium.

The aim of these tours is to contribute to the empowerment of these students and their access to culture as a means of social inclusion and integration. Those involved will not receive any money or any other reward from this cooperation, but there will be great moral reward and a feeling of social contribution.

The research and coordination are carried out by the Laboratory Director & Associate Professor Georgios Papaioannou and the researcher Dr. Artemis Papandritsa, in collaboration with the Director of the Corfu Prison Second Chance School Kyriakos Kolesis.
