CORFU. Work has begun on children΄s playgrounds in Karteria, Potamos, Kompitsi, Old Port area and Sokraki.

Work has begun on the renovation of children's playgrounds in the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality beginning with the one in Spilia.

The Municipality announced that very soon eight children's playgrounds and outdoor areas will be completely renovated to provide both safety and enjoyment for children and parents.

The eight are playgrounds in Karteria, Potamos, Kompitsi, Old Port area and Sokraki plus three outdoor municipal locations in Benitses, Ipsos and the Upper Square where adult exercise equipment will be installed.

The playgrounds will be completely changed very soon and will provide a hospitable area with all the modern facilities.

The project has a budget of €211,155 and was contracted out at the end of the summer with the work scheduled to begin at the beginning of 2023. The work is now progressing as per schedule.

Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros said: "The project to renovate children's playgrounds began after the work was contracted out about four months ago - all the equipment and materials have already been received and we are now at the stage where the actual onsite work is going ahead. We are improving the infrastructure and fulfilling our committment to the parents and children in the municipality."

Mayor Meropi Ydraiou said: "We do what we say and fulfil our promises. Five children's playgrounds and three outdoor areas are changing completely with new equipment, renovation of the infrastructure and safety for the children. They are being converted into what they should be for children and families - places of safety and enjoyment. The work continues - because Corfu only moves forward with work."
