CORFU. The €213,000 project will begin immediately and has to be completed within three months.

The Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and the representative of the contracting company signed today the contract for the project to deal with the landslides in Viros that were caused by Ballos, in the presence of the Deputy Mayor Nikos Kalogeros and officials of the Municipal Technical Works Department.

The €213,000 project will begin immediately and has to be completed within three months.

According to an announcement by the Municipality, in order for the municipal authority to make it to the signing of the contract for the implementation of the project, technical reports by the responsible Ministries and the Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration are required first. Thus, geological, geotechnical and structural research and studies were carried out due to the particular characteristics of the soil and the type of landslides that had been recorded by the severe weather conditions and flooding.

The Mayor Meropi Ydraiou stated the following: "After a time-consuming and complex process, we are pleased to sign the contract for this project. It was something that concerned our municipal authority from the beginning and we have already completed the restoration works in two other areas. We have solved several of the problems caused by Ballos. The time has come to also deal with issues that required specific studies and research.

In the near future we will also sign the contract for the repair of the Gastouri bridge. One by one we are closing the wounds left by the extreme weather conditions."
